Self-Care Sunday

Creating a self-care routine is essential to making your health and wellness a priority. In this article, I’ll teach you some simple tips to create your own self-care Sunday routine.

Some of these tips may be common sense, but for some of us, the hardest step is saying no to the ones you love so you can take a little time for yourself. Women are naturally tendency to nurturing and care for others. We are often praised when they put the needs of others before their own needs.

Women feel the pressure to be there for everyone else but lose sight of their true selves and become depressed, frustrated, and exhausted. It’s time to make space for yourself and create a self-care Sunday routine.

Self-Care Is Non-Negotiable You Time

Depending on your schedule, Sunday may not be the best day in the week. Chose a day that works best for you and set aside one hour a week to do one or two things that bring you joy. Your self-care time is non-negotiable. Put it on your calendar and make it known to your family and friends that you are unavailable during your self-care time. Suppose you have children hire a babysitter or ask a trusted family member to watch your children for an hour or two once a week. Putting distance between the noise, distractions, and stress of life allows you to reflect and refresh your energy to be the best mother, friend, partner, and sister possible.

Focus On Joy

Self-care Sunday focus should be all about the things that bring you joy, solitude, and peace. What makes you feel joy and pleasure? Do you enjoy taking a luxurious bubble bath surrounded by fragrance candles, reading your favorite book? At the same time, you sip on a cup of tea or a delicious meal at your favorite restaurant? Grab a sheet of paper and write down ten self-care activities that bring you joy. Keep this list in a safe spot to add more items to your list has new inspiration comes to mind. Here are some self-care activities that bring me joy:

  • Going to high tea at my favorite tea house
  • Hiking
  • Getting a massage
  • Manicure/ Pedicure
  • Facial
  • Time alone
  • Journaling
  • Watching classic movies
  • Meditating
  • Exercise
  • Going for a long drive on the back roads
  • Going to brunch with a friend

Wake Up Earlier

Soak up the last day of the weekend by rising early to do the things you love. It might seem counterintuitive to wake up early on the last day of the weekend, but rising early before everyone else wakes up might be the best way for busy women (especially moms) to start their day without interruption to spend some quality time on their own. If you are not a morning person you might want to consider the value of getting some much-needed silent time in the morning and having your partner available to tend to the children if necessary.

Day Of Pampering

Prepare for an ultimate day of pampering. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or go to a health spa to have a relaxing and soothing day of self-care. Most of the items that you need can be purchased at your local Dollar Tree or CVS pharmacy. Purchase your favorite candles, bath bombs, aromatherapy, facial mask, body oils in bulk and create a back stock of self-care items to have on hand at any time.

Set aside a few hours of uninterrupted solitude and create a self-care day agenda for yourself. Make sure to have a plush robe to lounge in and stock up on your favorite treats, champagne, tea, and cucumber water. Put on some relaxing music to set the mood and slow down. This is a great time to journal, read a book, or sit on the patio and slowly enjoy a cup of tea.

Self Reflection

Sunday is a spiritual day and a perfect time for self-reflection and soul searching. It’s important to make time to be alone and reflect on your life without the influence of others. There isn’t a right or wrong way to reflect. It’s important to reflect in a way that works best for you. Here are a few suggestions on ways that you can self-reflect.

Journaling

Meditation

Prayer

Deep breathing exercises

Walk in nature

Painting

Music

Yoga

Unplug From Social Media

A great way to unwind is to completely detach yourself from the world, especially social media and watching the news. Self-care is about renewing the mind, body, and soul, and social media can harm your mental health if you tend to compare your life to friends, family, and celebrities.

Turn your phone off and stay off of the computer during this time. You may notice that you don’t even miss being on your phone or that you have fewer things to worry about when you are away from technology.

Surround Yourself With Positivity

This day is all about you! Why not spend your self-care Sunday surrounded yourself with positive and uplifting messages. You can read an inspiring book, watch a TED talk, or say positive affirmations. This is also a great time to visualize your goals or create a vision board for your goals. Writing down your goals or empowering statements is a powerful way to change your limiting beliefs and put you in a positive mindset. Use this time to nurture a loving relationship with yourself and treat yourself in the way that you always dreamed of being treated.

If you’ve always wanted to be a successful businesswoman, how would you feel if you were already there? How would you dress, behave, and walk? Create an ideal scene in your mind and write it down. Have you always dreamed of the perfect partner? Treat yourself like a queen right now!

Make yourself a priority, and don’t wait for someone to make your dreams come true. If you’ve always wanted to go to a romantic French restaurant, take yourself! Dress up in your best dress and order whatever you want. Visualize what it will feel like to have your ideal partner sitting across from you and enjoy every moment.

When you put out positive energy into the world, that same energy is reflected in you.
