Floorplay Dance Class- Reconnecting Your Body To Your Sensual Self

Are you feeling disconnected from your body and lost any sign of your sensuality? In this article, “Floorplay Dance- Reconnecting Your Body To Your Sensual Self, I’ll share my experience with a dance class that’s taken me out of my comfort zone and helping me to rediscover my sensual side.

What Is Floorplay Dance?

Floorplay is a non-pole dancing class that teaches you the sensual art form of melting and gliding movements across the floor while also reconnecting your body to your sensual self. The choreography focuses on dance movements on the floor and explores sensual movement basics such as walking, hip circles, body waves, head rolls, and heelwork. If you’ve ever seen exotic dancers performing those sexy floor choreography, then you get an idea of what kind of moves are required. If you tend to be shy or modest, this choreography might be a stretch for you, but a positive way to get in touch with your body.

Why I’m Reconnecting My Body to My Sensual Self?

Recently I started taking private pole dancing classes with a friend to help me get back into shape in an out-of-the-box way. Over the last year, I’ve put on significant weight and haven’t felt like my energetic, youthful, and sensual side in over five years. Any signs of self-confidence or positive feelings about my body have long been extinguished. Pole dancing class is a starting point for me to learn how to love my body again. To feel reconnected like I was in high school as a teenager performing routines on the drill team. That youthful vigor has remained in me when I’m in good physical and mental health, but over the last year, any signs of my former self have disappeared.

Perhaps I’m having some form of a middle-life crisis. Trying to resurrect the part of myself from the days of old. Floorplay dance class also seemed that it would be much easier to look sexy in stripper heals without feeling like I was about to fall over.

What Do You Need For Class?

  • Water
  • Knee Pads
  • Socks
  • Exotic platform heels (optional)

I started with beginning floor play class to learn the basic moves of this exotic dance form. Walking into the first class, I was nervous and not sure what to expect. I felt intimidated by the other women dressed in skimpy cute outfits and stretching on the floor before class. These girls looked fierce! They definitely had taken this class before and moved about the studio in their platform heels with ease and confidence. But, on the other hand, I felt uncomfortable, chunky, and insecure in my workout pants and top.

Floorplay Dance Instructor

Our instructor for the day is named Taylor, and she came to introduce herself and welcome me to the class. She was everything you would expect in a Floorplay Instructor, tall, lean, long dark hair, and gorgeous. Taylor gave me a quick rundown on what to expect and left me to stretch. I chose one of the last available spots in the back so I wouldn’t embarrass myself in front of the group.

Class began promptly, and Taylor reintroduced herself to the group. She turned on some sultry music and started the class with warm-up stretches. The stretches focused on opening up our hips and legs. Many of the movements were familiar from my old high school days, so I felt more comfortable. By the end of the warm-up, I was dripping in sweat and nervously anticipating what gyrating dance moves I would be doing next.

What I liked most about the dance moves in floor play because every move is slow and fluid, and each dancer can interpret their moves. In addition, hip rolls accentuate a woman’s feminine curves with plenty of hair flips.

Some girls caressed their hands over their bodies or used their hands and arms to make lyrical gestures. I was trying to get the choreograph down properly and stiffly performed the choreography.

Tips For Your First Floorplay Dance Class

Arrive early

Give yourself plenty of time to check-in and get familiar with the studio before class starts. Spots in the back tend to fill up quickly, especially in the intro to Floorplay class.

Bringing knee pads with you

Most of the choreography in this dance lesson is on the floor, so your knees will take a beating. You can purchase knee pads on Amazon or wear knee-high socks to protect your delicate knees.

Water

Bring plenty of water because you will break a sweat!

Exotic Platform Heels

Wearing heels during class is not required, but it makes you feel and look sexy. The shoe brand that the studio I go to suggests is Pleasure Shoes which you can purchase in various colors and styles on Amazon. If you aren’t comfortable walking in high heels like me, you might want to consider buying exotic platform boots. They provide additional ankle support and will save your ankles if you have an unfortunate slip or fall, as I did in my second-floor play class—more on that ugly fall in a moment.

Don’t Get Discouraged

If you’re not picking up the moves or not feeling sexy, don’t get discouraged. It’s too easy to compare yourself with the women in the class who have taken lessons before or a dress size or two smaller than yours. Try to remember that every woman in the class is looking in that mirror and fighting her own internal battle with her self-image. The studio where I take the class is a wonderful community of supportive women who cheer you on and don’t judge you.

If You Fall….Get Back Up

Okay, I’ve had a few embarrassing moments in Floorplay class and Pole Dancing I class that I took a few weeks ago. My most recent embarrassing moment was losing my footing during the routine while making a small directional change and falling hard on my left hip. I tried so hard to regain balance, but when your rocking exotic platform heels, it’s kind of hard to catch yourself gracefully. Inside I was dying and hoping that no one noticed me fall. But, unfortunately, a couple of the girls did. One of them came up to me to ask if I was okay, which was sweet, but I felt like the clumsiest, most ingraceful person in the room.

Despite all of this, I got up and kept on dancing.

The greatest lesson of all from taking Floorplay Dance Class is that it’s pushing me out of my comfort zone in a big way while reconnecting my body to my most sensual self. I have a long way to go with my physical and personal goals to begin to heal the broken parts of my self-confidence. This class is challenging me in ways that I never considered, especially spiritually. This dance form is more than feeling sexy or putting on a show for some random drunk dude at a strip club. It’s about embracing your femininity and the power of being a woman.
