How To Create Your Own Self-Care Glam Squad

Have you envied celebrities for their seemingly perfect makeup, hair, and toned physique? I’m sure you think you have to be rich to have a glam squad of your own. What if I told you that you could have the same star treatment on a budget? In this article, “How To Create Your Own Self-Care Glam Squad,” I’ll share some of my top tips to create your own team of built-in support for your mind, body, and soul.

Why Do You Need A Self-Care Glam Squad?

Every woman needs a trusted group of individuals that they can turn to provide them with physical, emotional, and spiritual support to help them thrive as successful women in all aspects of their lives. It’s important to define the reason why a self-care glam squad is necessary.EveryHealth article “What Is Self-Care, and Why Is It Critical To Your Well-Being,” says it best “Self-care requires checking in with yourself and asking yourself how you’re doing and what your body’s asking for.”

Here are three key questions to ask yourself:

  • What do you need to help you feel cared for and supported?
  • What do you need to be the best version of yourself?
  • How would you feel if you took care of yourself better?

How would that improve your life and self-esteem if you could have massages and facials regularly or take a yearly retreat to grow personally? Imagine how far you would grow if you had a trusted team around you to support you in mind, body, heart, and soul.

Grab a sheet of paper and brainstorm goals in these top areas of your life: health, spiritually, personal growth, relationships, financial, career goals, home, and travel.

  • How do you want your body to feel?
  • What would you need to make that happen?

How Would You Feel?

How would you feel if you had a wonderful team around you to make sure that you’ve taken care of and in tip-top form? Knowing that you had a piece of time carved out to focus on yourself and your goals will help boost your self-esteem and help you have something to look forward to.

Would you need to cook more at home? Learn how to prepare healthy meals by signing up for a class or watching cooking shows online? Write down everything that you need to help you achieve your goals? You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have your dream team, a self-care squad. You need to get creative and be a resource to get what you want.

Just think of how you will feel knowing that you will have a few days a month to relax and take care of your body or have a personal trainer to help you focus on strengthening your body and reducing your stress, or a therapist to help you deal with the trauma that has been paralyzing you with fear for most of your life.

Where Can I Find Help?

Google search, word of mouth, references, insurance companies, etc., is a great place to start as you search for self-care glam squad experts. It’s important to take the time to research top experts to have on your team that is 100% committed to providing you with the highest quality of care. Don’t just take your friend’s word for it or a Yelp review.

Meet with the expert and check out their establishment before committing to receiving services. When you’re looking for a new self-care glam squad expert, here are a few key questions to look into.

  • Do they listen to my concerns and respect my feelings?
  • Is it clean?
  • Do I feel comfortable being around them?
  • Is the staff kind and helpful?
  • Can I be myself and speak freely?
  • Is the neighborhood safe?

The Start of My Own Self-Care Glam Squad

Since my late teens, finding a hairstylist to deal with my unruly hair and scalp condition has been a challenge. Unfortunately, I had a hairstylist that was so rude to me.

My oldest sister took me to a hairstylist when my scalp eczema flared up. She took one look at my scalp and said, “ Ewww, I don’t know if that is contagious” She then went to slide on surgical gloves as I sat in the chair, humiliated and sat for two hours in tears. After that, I never went back to that hairstylist again.

I eventually started going to another high stylist, one of the girls I knew in high school. I drove an hour and a half to get my hair done, and I arranged to come to get my hair done at 6 a.m. because I didn’t want to have to deal with anyone making comments about the bald patches and eczema on my scalp.

Having someone kind, gentle, and knowledgeable about my scalp condition really helped make my hairdresser experience more comfortable.
