12 Self-Care Tips For The Holidays

The holiday season is in full swing and it’s easy to forget about taking some rest and relaxation for yourself. In the article “12 Self-Care Tips For The Holidays” I’ll share my top tips to keep you jolly and zen all season long.

You just don’t want to just survive Christmas but thrive. These 12 Self-Care Tips For The Holidays will show you the way to enjoying the Christmas season and setting boundaries and makes your time a priority.

Stay Active

It’s easy to get off track from your fitness routine, but consistency is the key to seeing results. If you’re traveling you can do at home workouts. You could also go for a hike or a walk around the block with family.

Eat Clean

I know, it’s the holidays and you should enjoy yourself. It’s important to make as many healthy choices as you can. Fill your plate with fresh fruit, vegetables, and fresh meats and stay hydrated. Of course, you can enjoy your favorite treats but just make sure to eat and drink in moderation.

Take Time For Yourself

Don’t get caught up in the holiday frenzy. Take a few moments each day and breathe, slow down, and sit in silence. These moments of solitude will restore your balance and energy levels, but will also help you keep your sanity.

Say No To Holiday Parties

Okay, the holidays are filled with obligations to attend family events, work parties, or your kids’ school play. It seems that we are being pulled in a million different directions. You can’t do it all.

It’s okay to say no to attending a party that you’re not excited about or participate in another white elephant exchange. Having too many things on your plate is a recipe for stress and anxiety. Stop and ask yourself, would attending this party bring me joy or is it taking me away from things that I would rather be doing? If your first reaction is dread, then politely decline the invitation.

Help Those Less Fortunate

Give back to your community by helping those less fortunate. There are plenty of opportunities during the holidays to volunteer, donate, or bring holiday cheer to the homeless by giving away hygiene and care packs.

Get Good Quality Sleep

Don’t forget to get a good night’s sleep each night. This is especially important during the holidays when stress, anxiety, and flu season collide. The CDC recommends that adults should aim for 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Make sure to make sleep a priority.

Be Patient

This is easier said than done, especially if you’re stuck in traffic or in a crowded store trying to find the perfect Christmas gift for your loved ones. Find ways to avoid shopping during peak hours, and if possible just shop online. I will never shop in a store again during Christmas especially if a store has drive up pick up options.

This is a lifesaver if you have multiple things going on or you just don’t feel like being stuck in the malls. If you can save time by ordering groceries instead of going to the store, then do it! Trust me, you will thank me for saving your time and nerves by using online shopping and delivery services to get things done. With your extra time, you can get your nails done, wrap gifts, or get the house ready for guests.

Show Gratitude To Others

Express your gratitude to your family and friends but especially people that you meet throughout the day. Be especially mindful of the cashiers, waiters, and delivery driver’s who are dealing with grumpy customers during the busiest time of year. A simple smile or word of encouragement will bring a little bit of sunshine into their day.

Give The Gift Of Time

Sometimes the greatest gift is spending time together. Is there a sibling that loves to go to sporting events? Why not give them tickets to a basketball game and dinner with you. If your spouse has been asking for more time with you then plan a special date night.

The key is to only give your time to people who bring your joy.

Enjoy The Holiday Festivities

Embrace the holiday season in all its glory! The lights, decorations, Christmas songs, Hallmark movies, food, drinks, and wrapping paper.

There are plenty of holiday festivals, Christmas light displays, and holiday shows in your area that will get you in the mood for holidays. Simple Google Christmas events near me and you will have a ton of options to choose from. You can even create a holiday bucket list of things that you want to do like ice skating, caroling, and taking a photo with Santa.

Be Present

Cherish the time that you have with your family and be present in everything that you do. Make a point to put your phone away and engage in conversations with your family and friends. If spending time watching a football game is your family’s version of fun, then be all in.

This is especially important if you’re feeling hesitant about spending time with family and try to remove all resistance from your mind and heart. The holidays are the times when memories are made and wouldn’t you hate to miss Aunt Sally doing the electric slide in the kitchen?

Limit Your Time With Relatives

So you’re visiting your in-laws during the holidays and you’re dreading it. You know that you have to make an appearance but do you really have to be there all day? It’s okay to have a time limit for your visit and an emergency exit plan when things go wrong. Have a conversation and agree on terms that you both agree on.

There you have it! I hope those 12 Self-Care Tips For The Holidays will help you to navigate the holidays with ease. If you enjoyed this article, then you’ll love this helpful article Self-Care Holiday Gift Guide – Under $40.
