The Teahouse On Los Rios
Food Blog – The Tea House on Los Rios
Are you ready to go on a trip to England without getting on a plane? Join me on a food adventure at the tea house on Los Rios located in San Juan Capistrano, California.
It is one of my favorite tea houses and is a charming and elegant teahouse that you will ever find. I’ll share some tips and some of the must-have items on their delicious menu.
Location
The teahouse on Los Reyes Street is located in the historic neighborhood of Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano. The Teahouse is conveniently located next to the train station and a few minutes walk from Mission San Juan Capistrano.
As you approach the beautiful Victorian style home, you’ll notice a beautiful garden and veranda with tables covered with white linen cloths. When you enter the door, you are greeted warmly by their host. Make sure to look at their little store with teapots, wood signs, and tea sets.
I tend to sit in one or two spots when I visit. The majority of the time, I’m alone so there is one table outside the shop window that I enjoy sitting. On the last visit, I had the wonderful experience of dining alone in the music room. The walls are covered in floral wallpaper, and violins displayed on the wall.
Menu
The menu is an extensive array of tea house experience. If you want the full tea experience, I would suggest you get the High Tea Experience, which includes a glass of champagne or mimosa, freshly baked scone with cream and raspberry preserve, assorted finger sandwiches, your choice of soup or salad, fresh fruit, a selection of delectable desserts and loose leaf tea.
The nice thing about their menu is you can also order lunch entrees like salmon, salads, rosemary roasted salmon, and much more.
Brunch is also available on the weekends from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Try the Farmers Scramble or Farmers Market Vegetable Quiche.
The tea house is a great place to relax and have a quiet conversation or to enjoy a cup of tea.
Food
Okay, let’s talk about food! If you want a high tea experience with delicious and refreshing food, this is the place for you. The teahouse in Los Rios has the most delicious menu, and the presentation is to die for. They use fresh cut flowers on your plate for a beautiful garden-fresh display for your meal. Everything during your time at this restaurant is done with the most elegance.
From the china to how food is presented to you on your table, everything you eat is a piece of art.
One of my favorite things to eat is their delicious fresh-baked scones. I drive 40 minutes to visit this tea house specifically for the delicious scones. They come nice and hot out of the oven and are served with cream and raspberry preserves. The raspberry preserves are to die for! The sweetness and tartness of the raspberry preserves spread on top of a nice delicious scone is everything! Add a cup of Egyptian chamomile tea is the closest thing to heaven.
No matter what time of day I come to dine at the, I must have a scone. It’s one of my favorite things that I look forward to, and I was having a mad craving when the teahouse was closed during the Covid stay-at-home orders. As soon as I heard that the teahouse had reopened, I was there.
Another surprise winner is a farmhouse scramble. This delicious brunch menu item is simply eggs, bacon, and onions, but it is flavorful and comes to serve you piping hot. It is the perfect delicious bite. It’s also filled with fresh fruit, so it makes it a delicious meal.
They also have the most divine crumpets as that is served with real butter. I love watching the butter melt on the hot crumpets.
The lunch menu does not disappoint. If you’re looking for a protein-packed meal, try the rosemary herb chicken or salmon that is delicious that is served with rice and rosemary herb sauce.
If you want a lighter tea experience try one of the Los Rios Tea that has a selection of assorted finger sandwiches, and baked scone along with your favorite loose leaf tea selection.
They also have wonderful salads and salads if you’re looking for something light and fresh.
Tips
Call ahead and make a reservation or use the OpenTable app. The Teahouse on Los Rios is very popular on the weekends, so make sure to plan accordingly.
Parking in the teahouse lot is limited, but you can park in two dirt lots off Paseo Adelanto. There is also a parking lot at the train station with other restaurants in the area as well.
If you can take the train to San Juan Capistrano, I highly suggest doing it once. If you’re coming from San Diego, you’ll have some amazing views. Unfortunately, if you’re coming from Los Angeles and Orange County, you’ll miss the scenic ocean view.
