37 Summer Date Night Ideas

Love is in the air, and it’s time to plan a romantic summer date night! This article will give you 37 Summer Date Night Ideas to put a little spice in your love life! Summer dates don’t have to be expensive or fancy to be fun and romantic. A great summer date’s objective is to create an experience that brings up nostalgic feelings and bonds the couple through an activity.

My requirements for a good date are fun, food, and romance! I’m sure most women would rather have a thoughtful date than a flashy date at a 5-star restaurant. I’m not saying that women should plan most dates, but it might be a good idea to forward this post to your man if he isn’t creative with coming up with fresh date ideas.

37 Summer Date Night Ideas

Picnic in the park

Grab a blanket and a basket full of food and wine, and you have a sweet romantic date. Find a romantic park with a lake or an incredible view. Then take a stroll and even play at the playground.

Get ice cream and go for a walk along the boardwalk.

Who doesn’t love ice cream on a hot summer day? Going on an ice cream date is a perfect no pressure summer date idea. Find an ice cream shop near the beach and then take a stroll along the boardwalk. Going to get ice cream can be a great conversation starter to get to know your date. You can ask them what their favorite flavor of ice cream is and their favorite childhood memory.

Go hiking

If you’re an active person, a hike will make an excellent date option. Before planning a hiking date, make sure that your date enjoys hiking! Next, find an easy trail so you can spend your hike focusing on each other and not trying to catch your breath. Make sure to pack extra water, snacks, and a first aid kit. Your job is to keep your date comfortable throughout the hike. Hiking is a great date because it gives you plenty of time to talk and have an adventure together.

Have dinner at a beachfront restaurant

Find a local restaurant with an oceanfront view and make a reservation for dinner before sunset.

Go strawberry picking

Strawberry picking is a charming date that can be a lot of fun, and you can enjoy eating your fresh strawberries together. You might have to do some research to find strawberry picking fields. Personally, I would suggest going to an organic strawberry picking field to avoid pesticides typically used in regular strawberry fields.

Go to a sandcastle competition.

This is a date that I would love to go on—checking out a sandcastle competition. You and your date will be able to view the fantastic designs of sandcastle sculptures. There is typically a major competition in San Diego during Labor Day weekend, but this year the event is canceled. Hopefully, the event will return in 2021.

Picnic on the beach

A picnic on the beach is an easy and romantic date to put together. Depending on the time of day, you will need a beach towel, food, drinks, and some music. Spend the day frolicking in the waves and making sandcastles together. Going to the beach is always a winning choice when it comes to dates. There are plenty of things to do and having a beautiful view is always a conversation starter.

Go to a museum

Going to a science, art, or history museum is another creative date idea for summer. I love this date because you both get a chance to learn and gain insight into each other’s personalities and interests. Let your inner nerd be free and check out a local museum.

Go kayaking

If your an ocean lover, kayaking is an exciting adventure that you can do on a date. I went on a kayaking date years ago and it was an adventure! It was a beautiful way to see coastal wildlife and enjoy a fun day on the water. If you are not an active person or fear the ocean, this is not the date for you!

Snorkeling at a local cove

I would recommend going snorkeling on a date only if you’re an experienced snorkeler.

Go to a drive-in movie.

The perfect social distancing date. Head to the drive-in to see a movie in the comfort of your own car.

Go fishing at a lake.

Get out into nature and go fishing. This will allow your guy to show off his fishing skills. If you catch fish, you can always have a fish fry for dinner.

Go for a boat ride around the bay.

If you live near the ocean, take advantage of local charter boats and dinner cruises. Dinner cruises offer a few hours for dining and sometimes dancing. Check out Groupon for deals.

Make ice cream

Invent a new ice cream flavor together with an easy homemade ice cream recipe.

Have a barbeque

You can make it a couple’s barbeque and invite your friends.

Have a bonfire and make smores

Snuggle up by the bonfire and make delicious, ooey-gooey smores.

Go to the farmers market.

Explore your local farmers market and buy fresh ingredients for a meal.

Go stargazing in the desert.

Head out to the desert before sunset and get ready to explore the night sky. Download a constellation app and work together to identify planets.

Go rock climbing

Now I know your probably thinking I’m crazy for adding rock climbing, but it’s actually fun. You can go to a rock climbing facility, and their staff will teach you and your date everything you need to know.

Go for a bike ride along the beach.

Grab your bikes and hit a bike trail. If you don’t own a bike, you can rent a bike for the day.

Go surfing

Go wakeboarding

Go paddleboarding

Have a surprise water fight

Water wars are a playful way to get your partner in the mood for some fun. This is one of my favorite ideas, and I hope to ambush my date soon. I would only suggest a surprise ambush if you’re in a committed relationship and know your partner well.

Go camping

Spend some time outdoors camping. I like this date idea because it gives you time alone to really get to know each other away from city life distractions.

Go on a day trip to a city that you’ve never been

Is there a city you’ve always wanted to visit? Research some must-see destinations and plan a day trip to explore a new town’s sights and sounds.

Go lake fishing

I’m a country girl at heart, so fishing on a lake with my honey would be the perfect day.

Go to the county/state fair.

Fried foods, games, and rides make for the perfect date night. I can smell the popcorn already!

Go to an outdoor music concert.

Enjoy a summer night while listening and dancing to music at an outdoor venue.

Board Game Night on the patio

Who doesn’t like a little competition? Challenge your date to a game night and see who will win bragging rights of being the best game night winner!

Go wine tasting

Check out a local winery and do a wine tasting. Once you find a wine that you like, you can enjoy a nice conversation over a glass of wine.

Couples Iron Chef night at home

Challenge your date to a cooking throwdown—Google home iron chef competition for ideas on cooking items and rules.

Giving each other massages

If you’re in a committed relationship, this date could be a little spicy! All you need is massage oil, candles, and music to make this a romantic night.

Take a walk at sunset.

Taking a walk at sunset is a simple and relaxing way to spend some romantic moments with your date.

Go to mystery dinner.

Mystery dinners are my favorite night outs. Work with your date to examine the clues and solve the mystery.

Escape Room

Have a night of adventure in an escape room. Players have to solve a series of puzzles within a set time frame.

Binge-watch your favorite shows

Do you both enjoy the same show? Have a night to binge-watch a season of your favorite show.
