Ladies, summer is here, and it’s time to head out and catch some rays. In this article “What’s In My Beach Bag?”, I’ll share some of my favorite items to have in my beach bag and where you can get them. I am blessed to live in sunny California where I can go to the beach year-round. I moved to San Diego in 2005 to go to school, but I ended up staying and moving closer to the beach. That being said I always have a beach bag and a beach umbrella in the trunk of my car. Here are my go-to beach bag items.

Let’s talk about the essential items that you need for the beach. A beach bag! A beach bag should be big enough to hold your beach essentials, but small enough to haul your stuff to the beach comfortably. The beach bag that I’ve been using for years is a discontinued L.A.M.B. Beach tote. It’s a large, see-through tote that can hold everything that I need.
Another functional beach bag is Manelord Travel Beach Tote Bag. What I love about this bag is that it has pockets on the outside that you can store the things that you need access to the most. You can put your sandy sandals in the side pocket and not worry that you’ll get sand all over your dry clothes or snacks.
I never go to the beach without my beach umbrella. It doesn’t matter if it’s overcast or not, having shade on the beach is a must! I’ve used the same old school beach umbrella from Walmart for years. I have a Caribbean Joe beach umbrella. This umbrella is lightweight and easy to use.
My favorite sunblock of all-time is Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunblock SPF 70. I love the way the sunscreen smells and that it’s light and not greasy. My skin feels so soft when I use it, and I know that my skin is protected when I use Neutrogena sunblock.
If your skin is sensitive to the sun, I recommended getting Neutrogena sunblock stick for your face and ears.
Everyone needs to have a pair of cheap flip flops for the beach. The great thing about flip flops is that you can get them from your local drugstore and grocery store, and they only cost a few dollars. I usually will grab a pair from Walmart for under five dollars.
I wear sunglasses every day, rain or shine. My favorite place to buy sunglasses is Ross because I can find a designer pair of sunglasses for under $20. I usually will buy two pairs in case I break or lose a pair. Another place to find cute sunglasses is The Loft. I bought a pair of turtle shell sunglasses and they lastest over five years. I just bought three pairs of sunglasses on clearance at www.loft.com for $30!
I’m not too particular when it comes to beach towels. I usually will pick up a towel from Ross or Walmart. Most of my beach towels were gifts from my Mom.
I never go to the beach without putting on a lip balm with SPF. My favorite lip balm is Blistex Medicated Lip Balm. I love this lip balm because it seals in lip moisture and has SPF 15 to protect your lips from the sun.
You have to have a camera in your beach bag to capture beautiful sunsets or silly moments with family and friends. The camera that I use is a Sony DSCHX80 Cybershot. I’ve been using this camera for a couple of years, and I take it everywhere I go. The zoom lens on this camera is insane. I’ve taken pictures of the moon, and this camera picks up every detail.
Another neat feature is being able to transfer photos and videos to my phone via wifi. This comes in handy when I need to record videos for YouTube.
Having a water bottle to keep you hydrated at the beach is vital on those hot summer days. A water bottle that is easy to carry, won’t leak, and will keep your water cold all day is M.I.R.A. 17 Oz Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Water Bottle. This bottle is 17 fl. oz and can easily be tucked into a pocket in your beach bag.
I don’t know about you, but I always get cold when I’m at the beach. It doesn’t matter if it’s the hottest day of the year I’ll still get a chill. I always have a sweatshirt or a shawl in my beach bag to keep me warm while I’m lying on the beach.
I always have a meal in my bag when I go to the beach. My favorite snacks to bring in my bag are sandwiches, apples, trail mix, or a protein bar.
I love to keep a wet brush with me to keep my hair under control when the sea breeze kicks in in the late afternoon. Wet Brush goes through your hair like butter! It will not pull on your hair and is especially helpful when you rinse your hair after a swim.
I keep these powerful mints on me at all times. You never know when a cute surfer might walk by and strike up a chat!
A cover-up is another go-to outfit to keep in your bag or wear to the beach. I don’t understand how people can go to the grocery store in a bikini or walk down the street like it’s no big deal. I guess I don’t have as much confidence as some people. I always wear a cover-up to get me to the sand and back to the car. My usual cover-ups are dresses that I get off on clearance at The Loft Outlet.
Everyone needs a hand sanitizer for the beach in case you have a snack or touch something gross in the sand.
I keep my makeup bag with me for touch-ups. I typically wear waterproof mascara, but I don’t need it since I don’t go out into the ocean very far.
Lastly, I have to have a journal to write in. I tend to be more creative when I’m at the beach. I also bring a book to read when I get bored with people watching.
I hope this article inspired you to add some of these items into your beach bag. You might also consider keeping a spare beach bag in the trunk of your car for those spontaneous trips to the beach. If you enjoyed this blog, check out my latest article 8 Must Have Summer Outfits.
