The 7 Pillars of Self-Care is a principle in self-care that if you use them together can bring you a sense of well-being and wholeness to your life. Mental Health – Mindset

Your mindset affects every part of your life, so nurturing your mental health is the most important area that you should focus on. Keeping your mental health in your daily practice through meditation, personal development workshops, and positive affirmations to support a positive mindset. Setting aside just 10 minutes in the morning and evening to focus on improving your mindset by visualizing your goals is one way to build healthy habits. 

Here are a few ways that you add mental health into your daily routine

  • Meditate for 10 minutes
  • Journal
  • Unplugging from social media for a day
  • Say your positive affirmations out loud once a day
  • Join a mastermind group
  • Attend a personal development seminar
  • Visualize your goals when you wake up and before going to sleep

Physical Health – Exercise, Nutrition and Sleep

Taking care of your physical health through exercise, nutrition, and sleep is a key part of your self-care journey. Making your health a priority not only makes you look good but has benefits your heart, cognitive health, bone health, and managing your weight. Adding 20 minutes a day to move your body is a great way to keep in shape and also manage stress and anxiety. Exercise can be anything from walking, yoga, lifting weights, or dancing. 

Good quality sleep is just as important for your physical and mental health. Having a set bedtime is a simple way to add balance into your self-care journey. If you have a hard time falling asleep, try dimming the lights around the house one hour before bed time to start your wind down routine. 

Here are more tips that can help support your physical health

  • Eliminate processed foods from your diet and eat fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and meat
  • Get up and walk around the office every hour
  • Bring a refillable water bottle with you and take a drink every hour
  • Join a group class our higher a personal trainer
  • Set fitness goals and write them down and review them every day
  • Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep

Spiritual Health

Spiritual self-care is focused on taking care of your soul through a practice that helps you get in touch with your purpose and mission in life. Having a dedicated time to connect with yourself and a higher power can help you feel grounded and have  more meaning in life

  • Daily practice and connection to a Higher Power
  • Reading scripture
  • Watching an uplifting video
  • Volunteering your time to help those in need

Environmental 

Having a clean and organized environment at home is one way to create peace in your life. Having a hard time keeping the house tidy? Try cleaning up 29 items a day to stay on top of the cleaning  so little messes don’t get out of control. Having a weekly cleaning routine to wipe down will help you keep clutter and dust from accumulating.

  • Create a meditation space at home- pillows, candles, and soft lighting
  • Have a designated cleaning day each week (my cleaning day is on Sunday)
  • Declutter at least twice a year- if you haven’t worn it in the past two month and it’s not a seasonal staple-get rid of it
  • Go outside and walk in nature

Recreational – Fun, Hobbies, adventure

There’s always room for fun in life, right? It’s important to have hobbies and an opportunity to do things that bring you joy. You don’t have to go out or spend money to have fun. If you enjoy painting and schedule time to paint once a week for thirty minutes is perfect. Having time carved out for excitement and good times and new adventure is an absolute must. 

  • Going somewhere new
  • Scheduling time in your schedule for creative activity and hobbies
  • Taking time for yourself to do something that you love
  • Learning a new game

Social Self-Care

Having a community and support system to lean on and connect to is an integral part of  developing who you are. Social self-care allows your to develop healthy relationships with others helping you to feel a sense of belonging. 

  • Schedule monthly outings with good friends
  • Call a friend
  • Joining a club or support group

Ways To Add Self-Care Routine Into Your Daily Life

Schedule Self-Care Routine

Literally write down every things that you need to do to support your self-care routine and put it in your calendar to block out the time. Don’t give that time up, this is your time to regroup and take good care of yourself.

Habit Tracker

Keeping a daily scorecard on your new habits will help you keep your promises to yourself and hold you accountable. To start pick 4 or 5 self-care habits that you want to add to your life and and write them down. Next give each habit a certain number of points. When all together they should add up to 100. For example, if you exercising for an hour was worth 25 points and you completed the task for the day, you would earn the full 25 points, but if you completed 30 minutes, then you would only earn 12.5 points.

Get An Accountability Buddy

Having a partner in crime to help you stay on track with your self-care goals is key. Check in with each other every week to report how you’ve doing.Tip *Bring along your habit tracker or journal to help you remember.

Accountability Group

Start your own accountability group if you can’t find one near you. This is a great way for stay at home moms to have a group of women to help support her and hold her accountable. This is a great way to push yourself out of your comfort zone to accomplish your goals.

Following the 7 pillars of self-care will not only help you feel good in all areas of your life but can be a great example to women and girls of what life can offer you when you take care of yourself.
