4th of July Party Ideas During Social Distancing
The 4th of July is this weekend! Do you have plans? In this article 4th of July Party Ideas During Social Distancing, I’ll give you my top ideas on how to celebrate the 4th of July during social distancing. We all know that this 4th of July will be unlike any other 4th of July, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate our country’s birthday! We have to live our lives differently, but we still need social interaction to keep our spirits up.
Having A Safe & Social Distanced 4th Of July
Start with ground rules on your invitation. Let your guest know in advance that they will need to wear a mask and have their temperatures checked before they can enter. You can even say that their temperature is their ticket to the party. Also, include that hand sanitizer, and a nearby restroom is available for guests to wash hands when they arrive. You can easily create a paper or print one off the cdc.org website on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Keep the number of people that you invite to your party to your close family or friends. I mention friends because a lot of single people don’t live close to their family, and they might want to have a few friends over.
- Make sure that your house or backyard has enough room for all of your guests to stand six feet apart.
- Buy packaged condiments and prepare individual silverware and skip cups and buy water bottles and canned soda and have a recycling bin nearby.
- If you plan on making smores over the campfire, you can make a mini s’more making kit for all of your guests.
- Have plenty of serving spoons and tongs available for your guest to help themselves. Better yet serve your guest so they won’t need to touch the food.
- Make sure to stock your bathrooms up with delicious smelling soaps to wash hands with.
The key to a successful social distanced party is to keep everyone healthy and safe.
Let’s get started with some great tips to have a fun 4th of July celebration.

Family Barbeque
A family barbeque is always an easy go-to party that you can put together quickly. An easy 4th of July BBQ menu would be hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, and ribs. Serve individual chips instead of putting chips in a bowl. You can find a red checkered table cloth and festive paper plates at the Dollar Tree and serve icees for dessert.
Family Backyard Sports Day
An old school family sports day will make memories that will last forever. Our family games were baseball or basketball, but there are tons of fun games that everyone can play. A family relay race, football, volleyball, soccer, and even trivia! Have a goofy trophy made for the winner of the game.
4th of July Hike
A hike on the 4th is what I’ll most likely be doing. What a great way to celebrate America by enjoying her majestic meadows and forest. Use the Alltrails app to map out your Independence Day Hike in advance. Make sure to bring plenty of snacks and water for your long hike.
Camping in the Desert/Mountains
The ultimate way to social distance is to go to the middle of nowhere and campout. Check out your local state or national park and find the best areas to campout and sites to see around the park.
4th of July Pool Party
If your lucky enough to have a pool, why not throw a pool party. Buy some cheap water toys at Walmart and make a 4th of July swag bag for your guest with travel-sized sunblock, light up 4th of July necklace, a beach towel, and sunglasses.
4th of July Cocktail Party
A red, white, and blue cocktail party to remember! Have a 4th of July themed cocktail menu, glasses, and appetizers. You can even invite your guest to bring their cocktail recipes and have a vote for the best drink of the night. The winning prize can be a stainless steel shaker or margarita making kit.
Red, White & Blue Neighborhood Home Decorating Contest
Get the neighbors involved in a 4th of July home decorating contest. Find out which family has the most patriotic spirit with this fun competition. Invite your neighbors to participate in this contest two weeks in advance and have them register to enter the contest. Find two judges in the neighborhood (a senior citizen, military veteran, etc.) to judge the competition for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. This might be a new 4th of July tradition in your neighborhood.
Independence Day Water Balloon Wars
Plan the most epic water wars in history! Head over to Walmart and buy plenty of water guns, water balloons kit, and plastic totes. Prepare all the water balloons ahead of time and fill the totes with water and place them around your yard and a few hidden so a surprise ambush.
4th of July Firework Display Party
Most of the public firework displays are canceled this year, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t have your firework display! Be safe and smart to make sure you don’t start a wildfire or burn up your own home!
4th of July Crafting Party
For all my crafters, this is for you! Have a day of creating fun 4th of July themed party. Paint mason jars in red, white, and blue and decorate them and put tea candles inside for a centerpiece. Decorate white t-shirts with fabric paint with 4th of July design, red, white, and blue paper chain. The ideas are endless! Check out Pinterest for more great ideas.
Create Care packages for deployed military serviceman/women
Spend a few hours with family or friends and create care packages or send letters to military men and women deployed overseas. Check out Military On Source website on what supplies that service members need the most.
Red, White, & Blue Dessert Bake-off
Have your guests bring your best patriotic desserts to the party and have a vote to which dessert wins. All sweets have to be homemade, and it wouldn’t hurt to have your guest record themselves, making the dessert.
Backyard Movie Night
Take movie night outdoors with a fun family movie night. Grab blankets and pillows outside and project a movie on the side of the house. Make popcorn and put it in individual containers and boxes of junior mints, whoppers, milk duds, and Lemonheads. One of my favorite movies to watch during the summer is The Sandlot and Independence Day.
